Bubblegum Heart: Sugary Bubblegum Pop

You came in carrying skates by the laces

Blue lucky shirt, freckles, dimples in place

I fumbled my tickets, you laughed at the floor

Then held out your hand by the rink’s little door

One lap, two laps, I’m finding my feet

You turn, I turn, and we almost meet

You say, “You’re doing just fine”

I forget every word in my mind

Round and round, there you go

My cheeks are pink and my heart says hello

Hey, hey, what do you say?

Save me a spin at the rink today

Round and round, don’t let go

You’re my favorite face in the whole disco

Hey, hey, hip-hip-hurray!

First crush, first crush, roll my way!

We trade cherry sodas beside the arcade

You win me a sticker, a star and a skate

The DJ calls couples, you look at me shy

I nod like I’m cool, then I nearly slide by

One lap, two laps, the wheels hum along

You know all the words to my half-made song

You say, “Want one more try?”

I say, “Yes,” before asking why

Round and round, there you go

My cheeks are pink and my heart says hello

Hey, hey, what do you say?

Save me a spin at the rink today

Round and round, don’t let go

You’re my favorite face in the whole disco

Hey, hey, hip-hip-hurray!

First crush, first crush, roll my way!

When the lights come up and the last song ends

I’ll tuck that star in my pocket again

Maybe next Saturday, same time, same place

I’ll bring my brave smile—you bring that face

Round and round, there you go

My cheeks are pink and my heart says hello

Hey, hey, what do you say?

Save me a spin at the rink today

Round and round, don’t let go

You’re my favorite face in the whole disco

Hey, hey, hip-hip-hurray!

First crush, first crush, roll my way!

Roll my way, roll my way

Save me a spin next Saturday
