How does it identify a song?

Acoustic fingerprinting. Your clip is reduced to a compact signature of how its frequencies move over time, and that signature is matched against a catalogue of commercial releases. It is matching the actual recording, not the melody — which is why a cover version usually comes back as the cover, not the original.

It depends entirely on what you feed it, and any single percentage would be a marketing number. A clean clip of a commercially released recording is the easy case. A phone recording across a noisy room is harder. A live version, a remix or a DJ edit often matches something other than the studio release, because it genuinely is a different recording.

Can it find a song from humming?

Yes — the Hum / Sing tab is for exactly that. It runs a different engine from the file and recording tabs: fingerprinting matches an exact recording, while a hummed melody is matched on the tune alone, so hum ten seconds or more, keep it steady and skip the intro. It misses more often than a recording of the real track does, and a miss refunds the credits either way.

Can I paste a YouTube or TikTok link?

Yes. Paste a YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X, Vimeo, Facebook, Spotify or Deezer link into the Paste a link tab. A Spotify or Deezer link already names the track, so it is looked up straight away; a video has to be pulled from the page for you before it can be heard, which takes longer — usually under a minute — and a page that cannot be reached counts as a miss and refunds.

How long should the clip be?

Ten to fifteen seconds is the sweet spot, and the recorder stops itself at fifteen for that reason. A fingerprint needs enough of the track to be distinctive and nothing beyond that — a three-minute upload is not more likely to match, it is just slower to send. Aim for a part with the music clearly audible rather than the intro or a fade.

What can I do once I know the song?

Play it on whichever service you use — the result carries the links. Or use it as a direction: describe what you liked about it in the generator and make something of your own in that shape. That second path is the reason this tool is here rather than on a site that only identifies.
