How do I tune my bass guitar with this page?

The big note is what the microphone hears, the needle shows how far you are from it, and the highlighted chip is the string you are closest to. Turn the peg until the needle sits in the green. No microphone? Tap a chip to hear the reference note and match it by ear.

Why is the low B or E string harder to read?

The lowest bass strings sit around 30–40 Hz, where a phone or laptop microphone picks up very little. Pluck the string on its own, let it ring rather than muting it, and hold the device close to the strings or the amp. The 12th-fret harmonic is the same note an octave up and reads much more easily.

How accurate is the bass guitar tuner?

Within a couple of cents on a clean, ringing note, which is finer than most ears. Let each string ring on its own, mute the others, and tune somewhere quiet — background noise and heavy room reverb are what widen the reading.
