How do I tune my banjo with this page?

What is standard banjo tuning?

For five-string banjo it is Open G: the short fifth string is a high G4, then D3, G3, B3 and D4 across the neck — strummed open it sounds a G chord. Double C (g C G C D) and Standard C (g C G B D) are common for old-time playing, Open D (f♯ D F♯ A D) for some bluegrass tunes. Tenor banjo uses C G D A in fifths, like a viola.

How accurate is the banjo tuner?

Within a couple of cents on a clean, ringing note, which is finer than most ears. Let each string ring on its own, mute the others, and tune somewhere quiet — background noise and heavy room reverb are what widen the reading.
