TL;DR
House is the dance music that everything else borrowed from: a kick on every beat, an open hi-hat between them, a warm bass line and chords or a voice that lift the room. If you want to know how to make house music without a studio full of drum machines, open the AI house generator. It opens with Instrumental Only on and a deep house prompt already written: 122 BPM, warm rolling bass, jazzy Rhodes chords, shuffled hi-hats and soft vocal chops. Tap one of the six "Start from a vibe" tiles to hear a finished example and load its prompt, including two sung ones, then press Generate Music for Free. One run costs 10 credits, takes about a minute and returns two tracks.

What makes house music sound like house
House music was born in Chicago in the early 1980s, named after the Warehouse club, and built on drum machines, disco records and gospel voices. Its ingredients are few and easy to name in a prompt.
- Tempo. Most house sits between about 118 and 128 BPM. Deep and afro house tend to sit around 120 to 122, tech and piano house a little faster. The six presets use 120 to 126. Write the number; the model follows it roughly.
- Four on the floor. A kick drum on every beat is the backbone. Writing four on the floor makes it explicit, especially in sung prompts.
- Hi-hats and claps. An open hi-hat on the offbeat and a clap on two and four give house its bounce. crisp shuffled hi-hats and tight percussion cover it.
- Drum machines. Classic Chicago house was made on Roland drum machines; jacking 909 drum machine is understood.
- Bass. Warm and rolling in deep house, punchy and groovy in tech house. warm rolling bass line, punchy groovy bass line, analog bass, big bass.
- Chords. Jazzy Rhodes in deep house, bright piano stabs in Chicago and piano house, uplifting strings in vocal house.
- Voices. From soft vocal chops and a catchy vocal sample hook to a full powerful gospel-influenced female vocal. House vocals often come from gospel and soul.
- The party. late night warehouse groove, rooftop sunset party energy, warm tropical night. Setting words steer the mood.
Step by step with the AI house generator
- Open the AI house generator. It is the same form as the main AI music generator, pre-set for house. The Prompt tab is selected and the model picker shows v6 Mini, the free tier.
- Read the preset. The Prompt box says: deep house instrumental, 122 BPM, warm rolling bass line, jazzy rhodes chords, crisp shuffled hi-hats, soft vocal chops, late night warehouse groove. Instrumental Only is lit. Around it are the other chips (library, + Lyrics, Image, Video, Audio), the Inspiration genre row, Number of Songs to Generate at 2 and the Public switch.

- Tap a vibe. One tap plays that vibe's example and copies its prompt into the box, and it sets Instrumental Only to match. Tap Vocal house in the second row and the prompt becomes the soulful gospel-vocal song, Instrumental Only switches off, and the player bar plays Lift Me Higher: Vocal House.

- Browse the six examples. Further down, the page lists every example with its length and tags. Each was made on v6 from exactly the prompt on its tile.

- Open a song page. Lift Me Higher shows its cover, a play button, Share, the tags and the lyrics, with a chorus that opens "You lift me up, up, up when I'm falling".

- Press Generate Music for Free. The note underneath says Sign up free and get 16 credits — no credit card required. A run costs 10 credits and returns two tracks. They are new tracks in that style, not the example again.
- Keep the better groove. The two takes will differ in bass line, chords and hook. Keep one or both.
Writing a house prompt that works
The instrumental presets follow subgenre + BPM + bass + chords or lead + drums + one vocal texture + setting. The sung ones follow subgenre + subject + voice + chords + beat + one lift.
- Lead with the subgenre. deep house, tech house, classic chicago house, afro house, soulful vocal house, piano house. Each has its own bass and chords.
- Write the BPM. 122 BPM for deep, 126 BPM for tech. Numbers beat adjectives.
- Describe the bass. It carries the groove: warm rolling, punchy groovy, deep hypnotic.
- Pick one chord instrument. jazzy rhodes chords, piano stabs, bouncy piano chords, marimba melody.
- Choose the vocal level. None (Instrumental Only on), a texture (soft vocal chops, chanting vocal textures), a hook (catchy vocal sample hook), or a full singer with Instrumental Only off.
- For sung house, give a subject. about the weekend finally starting. The lyrics follow it. For your own words, use the Own Lyrics tab (lyrics up to 5,000 characters, style up to 1,000, title up to 80), or draft them in the AI lyrics generator.
- Finish with the setting. late night warehouse, rooftop sunset, warm tropical night.
- Stay under 500 characters. The presets use about 150 to 200.

The six house vibes on the page
The six tiles on the AI house generator and the exact prompt behind each example:
| Vibe | What it is | Prompt (verbatim) |
|---|---|---|
| Deep house | Instrumental, warm and jazzy (the page's preset); the example runs 3:38 | deep house instrumental, 122 BPM, warm rolling bass line, jazzy rhodes chords, crisp shuffled hi-hats, soft vocal chops, late night warehouse groove |
| Tech house | Instrumental, bass-led, with a vocal sample hook; 2:51 | tech house instrumental, 126 BPM, punchy groovy bass line, tight percussion, catchy vocal sample hook, rooftop sunset party energy |
| Chicago house | Instrumental, 909 drums and piano stabs; 3:18 | classic chicago house instrumental, 124 BPM, jacking 909 drum machine, piano stabs, analog bass, raw and joyful 80s warehouse feel |
| Vocal house | Sung, gospel-influenced female vocal; 3:53 | A soulful vocal house song about being lifted up by love and music on the dance floor, powerful gospel-influenced female vocal, piano chords, four on the floor and uplifting strings |
| Afro house | Instrumental, tribal percussion and marimba; 3:29 | afro house instrumental, 120 BPM, tribal percussion and shakers, deep hypnotic bass, marimba melody, chanting vocal textures, warm tropical night |
| Piano house | Sung, bouncy piano and a breakdown; 3:18 | An upbeat piano house song about the weekend finally starting, joyful female vocal hook, bouncy piano chords, big bass and hands-in-the-air breakdown |
The piano house example turns its subject straight into the hook: "The weekend's finally starting / Come on, come on, we're free".
Two of our own, untested:
- disco house instrumental, 124 BPM, filtered disco string loop, funky bass line, four on the floor, handclaps, sunny and nostalgic
- melodic progressive house instrumental, 123 BPM, warm plucked synth arpeggio, rolling bass, long build and breakdown, emotional and spacious
Common house mistakes
- No BPM. Without a number, "house" can come out too fast or too slow. Write it.
- Sung prompt without four on the floor. Once you describe a singer and a story, the model may write a pop song. The vocal house preset includes four on the floor for exactly this reason.
- Too many lead sounds. Piano, Rhodes, strings, synth lead and saxophone at once clutter the groove. One chord instrument, one hook.
- Dark techno words. industrial, relentless and metallic pull toward techno. House words are warm, soulful, joyful, groovy.
- Naming a producer. Describe the era, the groove and the sounds instead. You get an original track in that spirit.
- Judging from one take. Two come back each run. If both miss the same way, change the prompt.
Choosing a model
The picker in the top right has three models. v6 Mini is the free tier, "Fast drafts, high volume", and new accounts start there. v6 ("Most powerful, for any song") and v6 Wild ("Best for experimental ideas") need a paid plan. The six examples were made on v6. For house, a good routine is to try prompts on v6 Mini, then run the one you want to keep on v6, especially for sung tracks where the vocal is front and centre. v6 Wild suits odder blends. Every run costs 10 credits on any model; plans are on the pricing page.
After the track is made
- Make a longer version. DJs want long intros and outros. Extend Song continues a track from any point; our guide to extending a song explains where to cut.
- Swap a section. Replace Section regenerates the part that did not work, such as a weak breakdown.
- Restyle it. Cover Song re-performs a track in a different style, for instance a sung house track as an acoustic ballad.
- Get an instrumental or an a cappella. The vocal remover splits a sung track into two stems, vocals and instrumental.
- Add visuals. The AI music video tool turns a track into a video.
- Download. Downloads come with a plan; see pricing.

FAQ
What BPM is house music?
Usually 118 to 128 BPM. The six presets use 120 to 126. Type the number into the prompt; there is no separate BPM field, and the model follows it roughly.
Can I make vocal house?
Yes. Switch off Instrumental Only and describe the singer and the subject, as the Vocal house and Piano house tiles on the AI house generator do. The AI writes and sings the topline, or you can paste your own lyrics in the Own Lyrics tab.
How long are the tracks?
The six examples run from 2:51 to 3:53. Extend a track for a longer, DJ-friendly version.
What is the difference between house and techno?
Both run on a four-on-the-floor kick. House is warmer, with chords, swing and often vocals; techno is darker and more repetitive. For the other side, try the AI techno generator.
Is it free?
New accounts get 16 free credits with no card, enough for one 10-credit run that returns two tracks on v6 Mini. After that, credits come from a plan or a credit pack.
Can I use AI house music commercially, in a DJ set, on YouTube or on Spotify?
Commercial use is included only on the Standard plan and above, the 2,500+ credit packs, and Team plans. Tracks made with free credits, the Starter plan or the Mini credit pack are for personal use only. Check pricing before playing a paid gig or releasing a track.
Can I keep a track private?
Yes, on a paid plan: switch Public off before generating.
