Best MusicGPT Alternatives in 2026: 8 AI Music Generators Compared on Price, Rights and Tools

MusicGPT bundles song generation, sound effects and text-to-speech behind one credit balance — but downloads cost credits on the free plan, commercial use needs a paid tier, and its terms keep a licence to what you make. Here are eight MusicGPT alternatives compared on vocals, downloads, rights, editing tools and price.

TL;DR

MusicGPT is an all-in-one audio app: songs with vocals, instrumentals, sound effects and text-to-speech, all paid for from one credit balance, with remix, extend, replace and stems on the higher plans. (Despite the name, it has nothing to do with OpenAI or ChatGPT.) People look for MusicGPT alternatives for a handful of reasons: the free plan's credits go fast because downloads cost credits too, commercial use starts on a paid plan, its terms give MusicGPT a perpetual, royalty-free licence to use what you generate — including for training — and some people simply prefer the sound of Suno's models. The closest like-for-like for full songs with vocals is Suno AI Music: 16 free credits at sign-up, two songs for every 10-credit run, extend / cover / replace-section / vocal-split tools on every track, and credit packs that never expire. The rest of this list is better for specific jobs, and the table says which.

What MusicGPT is

MusicGPT sells itself as an audio hub rather than a single song generator. From one account you can generate full songs and instrumentals with its own models (its newest is branded v6 Pro), make sound effects, turn text into speech, and — on the higher tiers — remix, extend or replace parts of a track, add vocals to an instrumental, and download stems. Everything draws on the same pool of credits; a full song costs 50 credits.

Plans as of October 2026: a Free tier with a monthly credit allowance (roughly ten songs' worth), then Plus, Pro and Ultra. Third-party price checks put Pro at about $22 a month ($17 billed yearly) and Ultra at about $50 ($33 yearly), with Plus below them; MusicGPT advertises around a third off for yearly billing, and app-store prices can differ from the website. Download quality, generation speed, parallel generations and access to pre-release models all improve as you move up.

Why people look for a MusicGPT alternative

MusicGPT is capable. The friction is in the details of how it charges and what it keeps:

  1. Downloads cost credits on the free plan. Generating is only half the bill: on the free tier, taking an MP3 home spends credits too, so a monthly allowance that looks like ten songs buys fewer finished files.
  2. Commercial use needs a paid plan. Free-tier songs are for personal use; putting one under a monetised video or a client project means upgrading.
  3. The licence runs both ways. MusicGPT's terms grant it a royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual licence to use generated music for showcasing, marketing, improving the service and training. Paying gives you commercial rights, but not exclusivity against MusicGPT itself.
  4. Credits that reset. Subscription credits are monthly; a quiet month is money left on the table.
  5. The sound. MusicGPT runs its own models. If your reference is Suno's vocal quality, you may want Suno's models specifically.

The right MusicGPT alternative depends on which of these is your reason.

The eight alternatives

1. Suno AI Music — Suno's models with a finishing workbench

We are one of the tools on this list, so here is what we do and what we do not. Suno AI Music runs Suno's models — v6 Mini on the free tier, v6 and v6 Wild on the paid plans — and keeps every song in a library with the finishing tools beside it. You can extend a track that ends too soon, cover it into another style, replace one section with new lyrics, split vocals from the instrumental, or render an MP4 music video. Each generation costs 10 credits and returns two complete songs, and our AI lyrics generator drafts words if you start from an idea rather than a lyric sheet.

On the points above: MP3 downloads come with any plan or credit pack, with no separate per-download charge once you have one; WAV export and a commercial licence with a downloadable certificate come with Standard and above. Plans are Starter $9.99 (800 credits a month), Standard $29.99 (3,000) and Premium $99.99 (12,000). One-time credit packs run from 2,500 credits for $29.99 to 20,000 for $199, with a smaller pack for first purchases, and pack credits never expire.

Where we lose: no text-to-speech and no sound-effects generator — if you use MusicGPT as a one-stop audio shop, you will still want a separate tool for those.

2. Suno (official) — the quality reference

Suno's own app is still what most people compare song generators against. On September 9, 2026 it moved to the v6 family, trained on licensed music from partners including Warner Music and BMG. Pro is $10 a month (2,500 credits) and Premier $30 (10,000 credits plus Suno Studio, a browser DAW). The catch is downloads: since September 3, 2026 the free plan gets seven in total, Pro 20 a month and Premier 60. If you release a lot, count those first. The Suno v6 write-up has the details.

3. Google Flow Music — a free door and Lyria 3.5

Google's music app (formerly Riffusion) runs Lyria 3.5, sings, and remixes by replacing or extending sections. The free plan tops up credits daily with two generations at a time; Starter is $8 a month. Downloads come as MP3, WAV or M4A, every track carries Google's SynthID watermark, and commercial use follows Google's terms. Our Google Flow Music alternatives guide covers it in depth.

4. Mureka — the closest match to MusicGPT's toolkit

If what you use in MusicGPT is the producer side — stems, remixing, your own voice — Mureka is the nearest equivalent. The free plan gives four songs a day without downloads. Pro is $10 a month for 500 songs, MP3 downloads and commercial rights; Premier is $30 a month for 2,000 songs, WAV, stems and MIDI, Mureka Studio and voice cloning.

5. ElevenLabs Music — songs plus speech, with a clean licence

ElevenLabs is the other platform that does both music and voice. Its music model, trained on licensed data, makes sung or instrumental tracks in many languages, and the same account covers its well-known text-to-speech. Commercial use starts at the $6-a-month Starter plan; music draws about 900 credits per minute from the shared pool. Film, TV, radio and studio games need Enterprise. Pick it if you liked MusicGPT for having speech and music in one place and want tighter licence terms.

6. Udio — great sound, but nothing leaves the app

Udio still sounds excellent, but downloads of audio, video and stems have been disabled since October 29, 2025, after its settlement with Universal, and remain off while it builds a licensed platform. Plans buy music you can only play inside Udio. If you need files, it is not an alternative yet; our Udio alternatives guide explains why.

7. Stable Audio 3 — for the sound-effects half

If you used MusicGPT mostly for sound effects and instrumental beds, Stability AI's Stable Audio 3.0 (May 2026) is the specialist. Three of its four models — Small SFX, Small and Medium — have open weights and run on your own machine, and Medium generates up to 6 minutes 20 seconds. It was trained on licensed and Creative Commons audio, and the Community License allows free commercial use under $1 million in annual revenue. No vocals; our Stable Audio alternatives guide covers that trade-off.

8. ACE-Step 1.5 — open source, no one else's licence

For anyone uneasy about a platform keeping a perpetual licence to their songs, ACE-Step 1.5 removes the platform: an open-source song model with vocals, MIT-licensed and usable commercially, that runs on your own GPU. It also does covers, repainting part of a track, stem extraction and completion. The XL variants want about 12 GB of VRAM; the standard model runs on modest consumer GPUs, and there is a public demo on Hugging Face.

Which one for which job

  • Songs with vocals that I keep reworking: Suno AI Music. Replace section fixes a weak verse; extend fixes an ending that comes too soon.
  • I generate in bursts and hate losing monthly credits: a one-time credit pack on Suno AI Music — pack credits never expire.
  • The best raw song quality, a few releases a month: Suno's own app.
  • Stems, MIDI and voice cloning: Mureka Premier.
  • Music and speech in one account, with a clean licence: ElevenLabs.
  • Sound effects and instrumental beds: Stable Audio 3, or our AI instrumental generator for beds.
  • No platform licence at all: ACE-Step 1.5 on your own machine.

Prompting skills carry over between all of these; our Suno prompts guide works for every vocal generator on the list.

FAQ

Is MusicGPT made by OpenAI?

No. MusicGPT is an independent AI music company; the "GPT" in the name is not a link to OpenAI or ChatGPT. It runs its own music models.

Is MusicGPT free?

There is a free plan with a monthly credit allowance of roughly ten songs, but downloads on the free plan also cost credits, and commercial use requires a paid plan. Paid tiers are Plus, Pro and Ultra.

Can I use MusicGPT songs commercially?

On paid plans, yes. Note that MusicGPT's terms also grant the company a royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual licence to use generated music, including for marketing and training. On Suno AI Music, commercial use comes with the Standard plan and above, with a downloadable certificate.

What is the best MusicGPT alternative for songs with vocals?

For raw quality, Suno's own app, as long as its download caps suit you. For generating and then editing songs in one place — extend, cover, replace a section, split stems — Suno AI Music. The 16 credits you get at sign-up cover a first generation that returns two songs.

Which MusicGPT alternative also does text-to-speech?

ElevenLabs, which pairs its music model with its text-to-speech in one account. Most song generators, including Suno AI Music, focus on music only.

Is there a free MusicGPT alternative?

Several. Suno AI Music gives 16 credits at sign-up and runs Suno v6 Mini on the free tier; Google Flow Music has a free plan with daily credits; Mureka allows four songs a day without downloads; and ACE-Step 1.5 and Stable Audio 3 are free to run on your own hardware.

Final take

MusicGPT is a capable all-in-one, and if you use its sound effects and speech every week, the bundle makes sense. Look for a MusicGPT alternative when the friction is paying credits to download, the licence it keeps, credits that reset, or the sound itself. Want speech and music together with cleaner terms? ElevenLabs. Want no platform at all? ACE-Step. Want full songs with vocals on Suno's models that you extend, restyle and fix one section at a time, paid for with credits that wait for you? Start on Suno AI Music — the sign-up credits cover your first two songs.
